And now, the rest of the story:

When I started out on Tumblr a year and a half ago, two of the things I didn’t realize were that a) you can easily change your url without having to create a whole new blog and b) if you do start a new blog without creating a new account, the new sub-blog will never be able to follow anyone (the default blog is the one that does all the following), and whenever you follow or reply to anyone, it will be as your default blog, not as the sub-blog you may use as your regular blog. Furthermore, should you realize this problem after posting a whole bunch of stuff you don’t want to lose or leave behind and after realizing that all the cool features being added to the site (replies and the like) only work for default blogs, Marc LaFountain will tell you that Tumblr simply doesn’t allow you to switch your default blog. Short of starting over, you’re SOL.

It’s all very confusing, and I resisted switching back to my default blog (which used to be yellowbricksfail) for a long time because I didn’t want to confuse anyone and I didn’t want to lose any followers and I wanted to keep all my posts together. But there have been a lot of changes going on in my life lately, and now seems as good a time as any to make this change. My default blog now looks exactly like the blog you’re used to and I’ve changed the URL to yellowbricks. The difference is that you’ll need to click the follow button on the new Yellow Bricks in order for my new posts to show up on your dashboard. Easy peasy, right?

I’ll post periodic reminders for the next few weeks since I know a lot of you don’t read everything that crosses your dash, but I hope (fingers crossed) that this will be a super easy transition. And you guys: if you follow the new Yellow Bricks, you’ll be able to leave replies! You don’t even know how exciting that is for me. I’ve never been able to get them before, you see?? So head on over, okay? Last one there is a rotten egg.

This is One of Those Songs for me. I have a chemical reaction to it, no joke, and whenever I hear it I feel sublime. Sublime with an undercurrent of bittersweet, which just - ugh - hurts so good.

First rattle out of the box, there’s the mandolin. I could make out with that mandolin. Throw in soaring strings and pounding piano. Top the whole thing off with the facts that you can sing harmony from start to finish and matching Dwight’s twang is super enjoyable, and you’ve got song perfection. Makes me euphoric. Euphoric with a twist of heartache. Which only serves to bring out the flavor.

I do realize I’m likely the zillionth person to post this (though I’ve yet to see it on my dash), but this perfectly illustrates that popular music is popular for a reason.

Fellas, if you want to woo a girl, write a song like this. Even though the cheese is so thick you’d need a Ginsu to cut it, I get all swoony every time it comes on because how adorable is the boy who’d say these things to a girl? So adorable. Irresistible.

And musically? I dare you to hear this and not feel instantly happier. That rolling drum beat and the cheerful piano? And is that the most uplifting melody ever written? Quite possibly. I, for one, can’t stop smiling. This song, kids, is positively winning.

I feel compelled to take a moment to applaud your taste in clothing. (Especially as this is the first I’ve seen of it that isn’t “geek stuff,” as you put it. ;) ) That is one spectacular coat.

You have no idea how much flak I have gotten from my mates about that coat! Does this say something about the average Aussie male? To be fair, there is not much need of coats like this in Aus… except maybe in Melbourne.

Well, I’m now in love with all of your friends as they have made me laugh.

Also, perhaps now would be an appropriate time to admit that my *first* thought upon seeing that coat was, “Why can’t I have you?” because, you see, the cut of it - at least as it appears in that picture - does seem a tad on the feminine side. And I guess it would be ever so slightly inappropriate in a place like Australia. I suppose it’s lucky then that you’re not in Australia, yes? Of all the glorious times for a gorgeous coat like that to come into your life! The universe knows, Niv. The universe knows.

So buy it just as soon as humanly possibly, would you? But you really should opt for a knock off if one exists because, let’s face it, you’ll be back home before you know it and that’s a lot of money to pay for something that will get you beaten up on the playground.
